What Is Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Cream Used For?

Canesten Cream is a versatile antifungal used to treat skin infections caused by fungi (dermatophytes) and yeasts (candida). It effectively treats athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), ringworm, jock itch, and fungal infections of the skin folds (sweat rash). It is also used to relieve the external itching and soreness associated with vaginal or penile thrush.

Who Is Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Cream Suitable For?

Canesten is suitable for adults and children.

Do not use Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Cream if you:

• Are allergic to clotrimazole or any other ingredients in this medicine (specifically cetostearyl alcohol)
• Intend to treat internal vaginal thrush (this cream is for external use only)

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have previously had an allergic reaction to any antifungal medicine

Ingredients

Other ingredients: Benzyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, cetyl palmitate, cetostearyl alcohol, octyldodecanol, and purified water.

How to Use Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Cream

1. Before application, wash the infected area and dry it thoroughly, especially between fingers or toes.
2. Apply a small amount of cream (about 1/2 cm per area the size of a hand) to the affected site.
3. Rub the cream in gently 2 to 3 times per day.
4. Wash your hands after application to avoid spreading the infection.
5. Symptoms should clear within a few days; however, continue use for the full recommended duration (usually 2-4 weeks) to ensure the fungus is eradicated.

Possible Side Effects of Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Cream

Most people use Canesten without issues, but some may experience:

• Mild stinging or burning at the application site
• Skin peeling or blistering
• Redness (erythema) or itching
• General skin irritation

If you experience a severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face, difficulty breathing, or a fainting sensation), stop use immediately and seek medical help.
