Zovirax Cold Sore Cream contains aciclovir 5% w/w, an antiviral medicine used to treat cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus on the lips and surrounding skin. It works by stopping the virus from multiplying, helping to reduce healing time and ease symptoms such as tingling, itching, burning and discomfort when used at the first sign of a cold sore.

What Is Zovirax Cold Sore Cream Used For?

Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is used for the treatment of cold sores on the lips and surrounding skin. It is most effective when applied at the first warning signs such as tingling and itching, and it can also help speed up healing once a blister has developed.

Who Is Zovirax Cold Sore Cream Suitable For?

Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is suitable for adults and children of all ages.

Do not use Zovirax Cold Sore Cream if you:

• Are allergic to aciclovir, valaciclovir, propylene glycol or any of the listed ingredients

Do not apply the cream:

• Inside the mouth or nose
• In the eyes
• On the genital area
• On skin infections other than cold sores

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

• Have a weakened immune system
• Are unsure if your symptoms are caused by a cold sore
• Have very severe cold sores
• Are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding
• Are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines

How to Use Zovirax Cold Sore Cream

1. Wash your hands before and after application.
2. Apply liberally to the affected area at the first signs of tingling or itching.
3. Use 5 times a day, spaced evenly throughout the day.
4. Continue treatment for a full 4 days.
5. If the cold sore has not healed, continue treatment for up to 10 days in total.

Do not swallow the cream.
Do not use more than the recommended dose.
The amount of cream in this tube is enough for one cold sore episode.

Possible Side Effects of Zovirax Cold Sore Cream

Common side effects:

• Mild burning or stinging after application
• Redness, itching or mild drying or flaking of the skin

Uncommon side effects:

• Skin rashes, hives (urticaria) or weals

Rare but serious side effects:

• Allergic reactions such as swelling of the lips, face or eyelids

Stop using the cream and seek medical advice if you experience signs of an allergic reaction.

Warnings and Precautions

• Always wash your hands before and after use.
• Avoid touching your eyes after application.
• If cream gets into the eyes, rinse thoroughly with warm water.
• Avoid touching the cold sore to prevent spreading infection.
• Do not share this cream with others.
• Do not break blisters or pick scabs.
