Microgynon and Microgynon ED are combined oral contraceptive pills used to prevent pregnancy. They contain two female hormones, ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms and levonorgestrel 150 micrograms, which work together to stop ovulation, thicken cervical mucus to prevent sperm entry, and thin the lining of the womb to reduce the chance of implantation.
Microgynon is a 21-day pill followed by a 7-day break, while Microgynon ED is an everyday 28-day pill that includes inactive tablets to help maintain a regular daily routine. When taken correctly, both options provide reliable and reversible contraception.
