Lamisil AT 1% Cream is an antifungal treatment used to clear two common fungal skin infections.
Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection that affects the feet, most commonly between the toes. It can also develop on the soles, instep, or other areas of the feet. Symptoms include:
Lamisil AT cream is recommended for athlete’s foot between the toes. If you have a fungal nail infection with discolouration or changes in nail texture, speak to your doctor – this cream is not suitable for that type of infection.
Jock itch is a fungal infection affecting the groin and inner thighs. It usually appears on both sides, though one side is often more affected than the other, and can spread to the buttocks or stomach. It typically causes itching and burning and appears as a clearly defined rash that may have blisters.
Lamisil AT 1% Cream contains terbinafine hydrochloride, an antifungal agent that works by killing the fungi responsible for athlete’s foot and jock itch.
Terbinafine works by blocking an enzyme that fungi need to produce ergosterol, a substance that keeps their cell membranes intact. Without it, the fungal cell membrane breaks down and the fungus dies.
Because it works by killing the fungus rather than just slowing its growth, Lamisil AT can clear the infection in as little as one week of once-daily use. Skin healing continues for up to four weeks after treatment ends.
Lamisil AT 1% Cream is suitable for adults and young people aged 16 and over.
Do not use Lamisil AT cream if you:
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Lamisil AT cream if you are currently taking any other medicines, including those bought without a prescription.
Apply once a day for one week. Even after you stop using the cream, skin healing continues for up to four weeks.
If symptoms persist after two weeks, speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
Like all medicines, Lamisil AT cream can cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them.
Stop using the cream and seek immediate medical help if you have any of the following signs of a serious allergic reaction:
May affect up to 1 in 10 people:

Both are effective antifungal treatments, but they work in slightly different ways. Lamisil AT contains terbinafine, which is fungicidal, meaning it actively kills the fungus. Canesten contains clotrimazole, which is fungistatic, meaning it stops the fungus from growing and allows your body to clear the infection.
In practice, Lamisil AT tends to require a shorter course of treatment for athlete’s foot and jock itch – typically one week compared to two to four weeks for Canesten. The best option for you will depend on the type and location of your infection. If you’re unsure, speak to a pharmacist.
Apply Lamisil AT cream once daily for one week. Even after you finish the treatment, skin healing continues for up to four weeks, so it is normal for your skin to still look slightly affected after the course ends.
If you have not noticed any improvement within two weeks of starting treatment, speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
Both products contain terbinafine and treat athlete’s foot, but they are different formulations. Lamisil Once is a single-application film-forming solution – you apply it once, leave it on for 24 hours, and the treatment is complete. Lamisil AT is a cream applied once daily for one week. Lamisil Once is only indicated for athlete’s foot between the toes, while Lamisil AT also treats jock itch.
Lamisil AT cream isn’t suitable for fungal nail infections. If you have nail discolouration or changes in nail texture, such as thickening or flaking, you should speak to your doctor, who can recommend a more appropriate treatment.
Lamisil AT cream doesn’t need to be refrigerated. Keep the tube closed and stored in its carton at room temperature, out of sight and reach of children.
Yes, Lamisil AT 1% Cream is available without a prescription. You can buy it online at Click2Pharmacy and have it delivered discreetly to your door.
