K-Soft is highly conformable, making it ideal for reshaping the leg—especially around the ankle and calf—to ensure that subsequent compression layers provide the correct therapeutic pressure. It is a vital component for managing venous leg ulcers and is commonly used as the foundational layer (Layer 1) of the Urgo K-Four multi-layer compression system.

What Is K-Soft Sub Bandage Wadding Used For?

K-Soft is primarily used to protect the skin and absorb exudate in the treatment of venous leg ulcers. It acts as a buffer to reduce the risk of pressure damage to vulnerable areas, such as the tibial crest (shin) and Achilles tendon, and helps to “standardise” the shape of the leg for effective compression.

Who Is K-Soft Sub Bandage Wadding Suitable For?

K-Soft is suitable for adults and children requiring wound protection under bandages or orthopaedic casts. Do not use K-Soft if:

• The patient has a known allergy to viscose or polyester.

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if:

• The patient has severe arterial disease (ABPI < 0.5).
• The patient has diabetic microangiopathy or ischaemic phlebitis.
• The wound shows signs of clinical infection (requires a primary antimicrobial dressing first).

How to Apply K-Soft Sub Bandage Wadding

1. Ensure the primary wound dressing is securely in place.
2. Start at the base of the toes and anchor the bandage with a single turn.
3. Continue wrapping up the leg in a spiral motion with a 50% overlap.
4. Apply with just enough tension to conform to the leg shape without stretching the material.
5. Stop approximately 2cm below the knee (or as directed by a clinician).

Any excess material should be cut off rather than doubled over, as extra layers can create unwanted pressure points.

Possible Side Effects of K-Soft

K-Soft is generally very well tolerated. However, potential issues may include:

• Skin irritation or redness if the bandage is applied too tightly.
• Allergic reaction to the synthetic fibers (very rare).

Warnings and Precautions

• This is a single-use product; do not reuse.
• Ensure the bandage is not applied with tension, as it is intended for padding, not compression.
