Norimin works by combining the effects of two hormones, ethinylestradiol and norethisterone (an oestrogen and a progestogen), to prevent pregnancy from occurring.
Together, these hormones work in three main ways:
Norimin doesn’t protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. If protection against STIs is needed, a condom should be used alongside the pill.
Norimin is suitable for adult women who need oral contraception.
Don’t take Norimin if you:
Speak to your doctor before taking Norimin if you have or have had any of the following:
Some women using hormonal contraceptives, including Norimin, have experienced depression or low mood. If you notice mood changes or depressive symptoms, speak to your doctor as soon as possible.
Take 1 pill daily, taking the pill around the same time each day. Norimin can be taken with or without food.
Like all medicines, Norimin can cause side effects, though not everyone gets them.
Stop taking Norimin and contact your doctor straight away if you notice any of the following, as these may be signs of a blood clot or other serious condition:
Call an ambulance immediately if you experience sudden wheeziness, difficulty breathing, chest pain, fever, sudden swellings, rash or itching affecting the whole body.
If you get any side effects not listed here, tell your doctor or pharmacist. You can also report side effects directly via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
Active ingredients: norethisterone 1mg and ethinylestradiol 0.035mg per tablet
Other ingredients: maize starch, polyvidone, magnesium stearate and lactose
Norimin contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, speak to your doctor before taking this medicine.

Weight gain is listed as a possible side effect of Norimin. If you notice a significant or unexplained change in your weight after starting Norimin, speak to your doctor. They can review your treatment and advise whether an adjustment is needed.
Norimin is a combined oral contraceptive pill. It contains two hormones, norethisterone (a progestogen) and ethinylestradiol (an oestrogen), which work together to prevent pregnancy. It’s not the same as the mini pill, which contains only a progestogen and works differently.
If you’re less than 12 hours late taking your tablet, take it as soon as you remember and continue as normal. Your contraceptive protection isn’t affected.
If you’re 12 or more hours late, taking a missed pill is still better than skipping it – take it straight away, but you may not be protected for the next 7 days. Use an additional contraceptive method such as a condom during that time. If fewer than 7 tablets remain in your strip after a missed dose, finish the strip and start the next one without a break, skipping the usual 7-day break.
If you start Norimin on the first day of your period, you’re protected straight away. If you start on any day up to day 5 of your period, you won’t be protected for the first 7 days and should use additional contraception such as a condom during that time.
Yes, you can buy Norimin online from Click2Pharmacy. Complete a free online consultation, which our pharmacists will review. If Norimin is suitable for you, we’ll issue your prescription and deliver it directly to your door in discreet packaging.
Norimin is designed to be taken for 21 days followed by a 7-day break. Some women ask about tricycling, which involves running several strips back-to-back without a break, but this is an off-label use. Speak to your doctor before making any changes to how you take it.
Take your first Norimin tablet the day after your last pill in your current strip, with no break in between. Your period will usually be delayed until the new strip is finished, though some breakthrough bleeding in the first few days is normal. You’ll still be protected against pregnancy throughout.
When taken correctly and consistently, Norimin is a very effective form of contraception. As with all combined pills, effectiveness can be reduced if tablets are missed, taken late or if you’re taking certain other medicines. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any concerns about your contraceptive cover.
Brevinor and Norimin aren’t the same, though both are combined oral contraceptive pills containing norethisterone and ethinylestradiol. Brevinor contains a lower dose of norethisterone (0.5mg) compared to Norimin (1mg), while the ethinylestradiol dose is the same (0.035mg). Your doctor will have prescribed Norimin based on what’s most suitable for you. Always speak to your doctor before switching between pills.
If you vomit or have severe diarrhoea, Norimin may not have been fully absorbed. Keep taking your tablets as normal but use additional contraception such as a condom while you’re unwell and for the next 7 days. If those 7 days extend beyond the end of your current strip, start the next strip without a break.
