By acting directly on the blood vessels in the nasal passages, Otrivine helps to reduce swelling and clear mucus, allowing you to breathe more easily through your nose in as little as 2 minutes.

This metered-dose spray ensures a consistent and precise amount of medication with every application. Otrivine Adult Nasal Spray is designed for targeted relief that lasts for up to 10 hours, helping you manage symptoms throughout the day or night.

What Is Otrivine Blocked Nose Relief Spray Used For?

Otrivine Blocked Nose Relief Spray is used to provide fast-acting relief from a “stuffy nose” associated with common colds, perennial and allergic rhinitis (including hay fever), and sinusitis. It works as a vasoconstrictor, narrowing the blood vessels in the nose to reduce inflammation and congestion.

Who Is Otrivine Blocked Nose Relief Suitable For?

Otrivine is suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over.

Do not use Otrivine Blocked Nose Relief Spray if you:

  • Are allergic to xylometazoline or any other ingredients in the spray
  • Have had recent neurosurgery (trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy or surgery exposing the dura mater)
  • Suffer from narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Have chronic nasal inflammation with very dry nasal passages (rhinitis sicca or atrophic rhinitis)

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

  • Have hypertension (high blood pressure) or cardiovascular disease
  • Have an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism)
  • Have diabetes or an enlarged prostate
  • Are taking or have recently taken MAOIs (antidepressants)
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding

How to Use Otrivine Blocked Nose Relief Spray

  1. Gently blow your nose before use.
  2. Remove the protective cap and prime the pump by pressing several times until a fine mist is produced.
  3. Insert the nozzle into a nostril and press the pump once while breathing in through the nose.
  4. Repeat the process for the other nostril.
  5. Clean and dry the nozzle before replacing the cap.

Do not use the spray for more than 7 consecutive days. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.

Possible Side Effects of Otrivine Blocked Nose Relief Spray

Like all medicines, Otrivine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them:

  • Nasal dryness or discomfort
  • Nausea or headaches
  • A local burning sensation in the nose

Very rare side effects:

  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching)
  • Blurred vision
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat

If used for longer than 7 days, it may cause “rebound congestion,” where the nasal passages become more blocked than before.
