Senokot Tablets are effective laxatives used for the short-term relief of occasional constipation.
Many people will experience occasional constipation, but it can be uncomfortable and inconvenient. It often involves symptoms like infrequent bowel movements, hard, dry stools, and bloating. Senokot works overnight to gently stimulate the bowel, helping to restore regularity and ease discomfort.
Senokot Tablets contain natural senna, a stimulant laxative. This active ingredient encourages the muscles of the bowel to contract, helping to move stools through the digestive system. It’s usually effective within 6-12 hours, providing overnight relief when taken before bedtime.
Senokot Tablets can be used by adults and the elderly who are experiencing occasional constipation.
Do not use if you:
Take 1–2 tablets at night with a glass of water.
You should start by taking the lowest dose and only increase it if your symptoms do not improve after several days. Once you have regained regular bowel movements, you should gradually reduce the dose and stop using it. Do not use it for more than a week without speaking to your doctor or pharmacist.
Like all medicines, Senokot may cause side effects, though not everyone will experience them.
These symptoms are more likely if you have an irritable colon. Reducing the dose can help.
If you experience any severe side effects, stop using the tablets immediately and seek medical advice.
For a full list of side effects, consult the patient information leaflet.
If you notice any side effects, inform your doctor or pharmacist, even if they are not listed here. You can also report side effects directly through the Yellow Card Scheme. Reporting helps to improve the understanding of this medication’s safety.

Yes, Senokot Tablets can be purchased without a prescription in the UK. You can buy Senokot Tablets from Click2Pharmacy’s constipation treatment clinic, which offers quick delivery options.
Senokot Tablets typically relieve symptoms in 6-12 hours. For best results, take them at bedtime, allowing the laxative effect to occur overnight.
Senokot Tablets should not be used for weight loss. Laxatives do not reduce the number of calories absorbed from food and may cause serious health issues, including dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, if misused.
If you are interested in weight loss, weight loss medications are available through our online weight loss clinic.
What should I do if I forget to take a dose of Senokot?
Senokot Tablets should only be used for short-term relief of constipation. If symptoms persist for more than a week or if you find yourself needing laxatives every day, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
If you are taking heart medications, diuretics, corticosteroids, or liquorice root preparations, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Senokot Tablets, as these combinations may affect electrolyte balance.
Taking too many tablets or overusing Senokot can cause diarrhoea, dehydration, and an imbalance of electrolytes. Contact a doctor immediately and bring the leaflet with you.
Senokot Tablets are not designed to be dissolved in water or other liquids. They should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. If you have difficulty with swallowing or oral use, consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice. They may recommend an alternative form of laxative that is easier for you to take.

Tinnevelly senna fruit is a natural ingredient derived from the senna plant. It is the active ingredient in laxatives made with natural senna, like Adult Senokot Tablets, which is clinically proven to relieve occasional constipation. This senna fruit laxative works by gently stimulating the bowel to restore normal movement and is a gentle, natural option.
“Senokot 7.5mg Tablets are a great option to gently relieve constipation. These effective laxatives, made with natural Senna fruit, work overnight to help you wake up feeling comfortable and regular.”
