What Is Octenisan Wash Lotion Used For?

Octenisan Wash Lotion is primarily used for the antimicrobial cleansing of the skin and hair. It helps eliminate harmful bacteria and fungi, significantly reducing the risk of infections. It is a standard requirement for patients undergoing pre-operative decontamination to prevent surgical site infections (SSI) and is widely used for decolonising patients carrying MRSA or other resistant bacteria.

Who Is Octenisan Wash Lotion Suitable For?

Octenisan is suitable for almost all skin types, including those with soap allergies, sensitive skin, or skin prone to inflammation.

Do not use Octenisan Wash Lotion if you:

• Are allergic to octenidine hydrochloride or any other listed ingredients

Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have severe skin conditions like extensive eczema or psoriasis
• Are using it on infants or children under 3 years old

How to Use Octenisan Wash Lotion

1. Thoroughly wet your hair and body before application.
2. Apply the lotion undiluted to a clean, damp washcloth or directly into your hands.
3. Massage into the skin and hair, paying close attention to the armpits, groin, and skin folds.
4. Important: Ensure the lotion remains on the skin for at least 60 seconds to allow the antimicrobial action to work.
5. Rinse off completely with clean water and dry with a fresh, clean towel.

For MRSA decontamination, follow the specific washing schedule provided by your healthcare provider, which usually involves daily washing for 5 consecutive days.

Possible Side Effects of Octenisan Wash Lotion

Octenisan is generally very well tolerated, but some minor side effects may occur in rare cases:

• Mild skin irritation, itching, or redness
• A slight stinging sensation if applied to broken skin or immediately after shaving

These symptoms are usually temporary and stop once the product is rinsed away.

Warnings and Precautions

• For external use only; do not swallow.
• Avoid contact with the eyes; if contact occurs, rinse immediately and thoroughly with water.
• Do not use in the inner ear or on the central nervous system (brain or meninges).
