What is Ryaltris Nasal Spray used for?

Ryaltris Nasal Spray treats moderate to severe nasal symptoms, including sneezing, along with other symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial rhinitis, in adults and adolescents aged 12 and over.

Seasonal allergic rhinitis happens at certain times of the year and is caused by breathing in pollen from trees, grasses and weeds, as well as moulds and fungal spores. Perennial rhinitis can happen year-round and can be triggered by things like house dust mite, animal hair or dander, feathers and certain foods.

Ryaltris relieves allergy symptoms such as:

• A runny nose
• Sneezing
• An itchy or blocked nose

How does Ryaltris Nasal Spray work?

Ryaltris contains two active ingredients: mometasone furoate and olopatadine hydrochloride.

Mometasone furoate is a corticosteroid (steroid) that reduces the inflammation often found in allergic rhinitis.

Olopatadine is an antihistamine. Antihistamines work by blocking the effects of histamine, a substance your body produces during an allergic reaction, which helps reduce symptoms like sneezing and itching.

By combining a corticosteroid with an antihistamine in one spray, Ryaltris targets both the inflammation and the allergic response behind your symptoms.

Who can use Ryaltris Nasal Spray?

Ryaltris Nasal Spray is suitable for adults and adolescents 12 years of age and over with symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis. It isn’t recommended for children under 12.

Don’t use Ryaltris if you:

• Are allergic to mometasone furoate, olopatadine or any of the other ingredients
• Have an untreated infection in your nose, such as herpes
• Have recently had an operation on your nose or injured your nose and haven’t fully healed

Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Ryaltris if you:

• Have or have ever had tuberculosis
• Have any other infection
• Are taking other steroid medicines by mouth or injection
• Have persistent irritation in your nose or throat
• Experience blurred vision or other visual disturbances
• Have a weakened immune system and come into contact with anyone with measles or chickenpox
• Are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are breastfeeding
• Are planning to have a baby

Using Ryaltris for several months or longer can affect growth in children and adolescents, so your doctor will monitor this and prescribe the lowest effective dose.

How To Take Ryaltris Nasal Spray

The recommended dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 and over is two sprays into each nostril in the morning and evening.

1. Shake the bottle well for at least 10 seconds before each use.
2. If you’re using Ryaltris for the first time, point the nozzle away from you and press down to release the spray, pumping 6 times until a fine mist appears.
3. If you haven’t used the spray for 14 days or more, shake the bottle well and prime it again with two pumps, or until a fine mist appears, before using as normal.
4. Gently blow your nose to clear your nostrils.
5. Hold the bottle upright, with your index and middle fingers on either side of the nozzle and your thumb supporting the base.
6. Close one nostril and insert the spray tip into the other, pointing it slightly towards the outside of your nose.
7. Tilt your head forward slightly, then press down firmly on the nozzle while breathing in gently through your nose.
8. Breathe out through your mouth.
9. Repeat for a second spray in the same nostril, then use two sprays in the other nostril.
10. Wipe the nozzle with a clean, dry tissue and replace the dust cap after each use.

Side Effects of Ryaltris Nasal Spray

Like all medicines, Ryaltris can cause side effects, though not everyone gets them.

Common Side Effects

These may affect up to 1 in 10 people:

• A bitter taste in your mouth
• Nosebleed
• Slight irritation inside your nose

Uncommon Side Effects

These may affect up to 1 in 100 people:

• Dizziness
• Headaches
• Sleepiness
• Nasal dryness
• Dry mouth
• Abdominal pain
• Nausea
• Fatigue

Rare Side Effects

These may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people:

• Bacterial vaginosis
• Anxiety, depression or insomnia
• Lethargy or migraine
• Dry eye, blurred vision or eye discomfort
• Ear pain
• Sore throat
• Sneezing
• Throat irritation
• Constipation
• Sore tongue
• Swelling and ulcers inside your nose

Side Effects With Unknown Frequency

• Increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma) and/or cataracts, causing visual disturbances
• Damage to the partition between your nostrils
• Difficulty breathing and/or wheezing
• Respiratory tract infection

Serious Allergic Reactions

Stop using Ryaltris and get immediate medical help if you experience:

• A swollen face, tongue or throat
• Trouble swallowing
• Hives
• Weezing or trouble breathing

Ryaltris Nasal Spray Ingredients

Active ingredients: Mometasone furoate (as monohydrate), equivalent to 25 micrograms per spray, and olopatadine (as hydrochloride), equivalent to 600 micrograms per spray

Other ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose (E460), carmellose sodium (E466), dibasic sodium phosphate heptahydrate (E339), sodium chloride, benzalkonium chloride, glycerol, disodium edetate, polysorbate 80 (E433), hydrochloric acid (E507), sodium hydroxide (E524) and water for injections

Warnings and Precautions

• Ryaltris can very rarely cause dizziness, lethargy, fatigue or sleepiness. Don’t drive or operate machinery if you’re affected, and be aware that alcohol may make this worse.
• Ryaltris contains benzalkonium chloride, which may cause irritation or swelling of the nasal passages if used for a long time.
• Using steroid nasal sprays at high doses for long periods can occasionally cause effects like weight loss, fatigue, muscle weakness, low blood sugar, salt cravings, joint pain, depression or darkening of the skin.
• Long-term use in children and adolescents can slow growth. Your doctor will monitor your height regularly and prescribe the lowest effective dose.
• Avoid getting Ryaltris in your eyes.
• Ryaltris shouldn’t be used during pregnancy unless your doctor considers it appropriate.
• If you’re breastfeeding, speak to your doctor before using Ryaltris, as you shouldn’t breastfeed and use this medicine at the same time.
• Tell your doctor if you’re taking other steroid medicines for allergies, either by mouth or injection, as they may advise you to stop these once you start Ryaltris.
• Certain medicines for HIV, including ritonavir and cobicistat, may increase the effects of Ryaltris.
• If you’re using other medicines containing olopatadine or antihistamines, including nasal sprays or eye drops, your doctor may advise you to stop these once you start Ryaltris.
• Store below 25°C, don’t freeze, and use the bottle within 2 months of first opening.
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Don’t use after the expiry date shown on the bottle and carton.
